Question: I've been updating my virus database as per the update schedule but never found any virus. How big is the threat really?

Answer: Every day, Viroxware Service Centres receive a number of user calls who suffer from virus-infected mobile phones, asking us how to retrieve or safe data. As with your computer, viruses often won’t occur or be noticed until it is too late, unfortunately.

Mobile phones share the same environment as your pc (for example the internet), often use similar operating systems (for instance Microsoft Windows Mobile) and hence, are prone to the same threads as your pc.

Today it is common practice to install antivirus and internet security programs on your pc. Most of us found out the hard way that viruses actually exist, and we all know the cases of dataloss and computer-crashes – due to viruses.

Now, you only have to look in the international and national media to find out the emerging trend of mobile viruses and stolen identities - via the mobile phone.

Question: My mobile phone is running slow these days. I suspect it to be infected by a virus but my Viroxware Antivirus hasn’t detected any virus. Why is this?

Answer: Firstly, make sure that your Viroxware Anti-virus definitions are the latest. You can do this by manually updating the program. An out-of-date program will not detect the latest threats or new viruses.

After installation of the program, we strongly recommend that you let the program update the anti-virus definitions, and that you perform a complete system scan regularly. The best way of ensuring that you have the latest antivirus updates, is by subscribing to the Viroxware service. Updating will then be executed automatically.

When your phone is running slow, there might be other causes that slow it down, such as excessive processes, too many open applications or insufficient memory.

Our Mobile Phone Security Suite, which will be introduced shortly, is designed to handle and address this kind of problems.

Question: I am using more than one phone. Can I install Viroxware Anti-Virus on a SIM card and use it between phones?

Answer: No, you can’t. Viroxware Anti-virus for Symbian S60 3.0 supports no installation on a memory or sim card.

Viroxware Anti-virus for Symbian S60 2.0 can be installed on a SIM or memory card, however, it will significantly slow down the scanning speed.

We strongly recommend you to install NetQin Anti-virus on your mobile phone device itself. If the memory of your mobile phone is not big enough for installation and you can’t see any other option than to install it on a sim or memorycard, please contact our customer service.

Question: Will Viroxware Anti-Virus slow down the operating system of my mobile phone?

Answer: Viroxware has been developed and tested with the limited capabilities of a mobile phone in mind and will therefore not use too much memory or too many resources.

If you experience your phone to be slow after installation of Viroxware, you can manually set the level of Viroxware’s real-time monitoring. By lowering this level you minimize the effect on your operating system. Please bear in mind that the Viroxware software has been tested on most phones and platforms and optimizes its settings during installation.

To manually change the real-time monitoring, please refer to the following steps:

Question: : I am using Viroxware Anti-virus to scan and eliminate viruses and threats. However, I found via my pc software a threat that was hidden inside a compressed file (*.zip or *.rar format) that I stored on my phone’s memory card. Viroxware failed to detect the virus that was hidden inside the compressed files. Why didn’t Viroxware detect this?

Answer: Virus scanning technology on a mobile phone is quite different from the technique that you are using on your computer. If Viroxware has to scan a *.ZIP or *.RAR file for viruses, it will effect the power consumption of your mobile phone significantly and reduce battery life of your phone, whilst the unpacked or unzipped files can not be used, until they are ‘unzipped’ or ‘unpacked’.

The virus inside this *.ZIP or *.RAR pack will cause no damage to your mobile phone as long as it is packed or zipped. As soon as you OPEN the file, the Viroxware Real Time Monitor will scan, detect and quarantine or disable the malicious files immediately. By handling these files in this way, Viroxware minimizes the effect on the battery life of your telephone.

Question: If I don't renew, start or change my subscription status, or don’t update the anti-virusdefinitions even once, can I still use Viroxware Anti-Virus?

Answer: Yes, you can use a fully functional version of Viroxware. The program is free of charge. The only charges are for the update service of your anti-virus definitions. You can use Viroxware Anti-Virus without updating the virus definitions, but bear in mind that the program is not up-to-date and is not protecting you from the latest threats. As mentioned in question 1, we strongly recommend you to keep your anti-virus definitions up-to-date to prevent unnecessary loss of data or system crashes.

Question: The downloaded Viroxware doesn’t seem to be compatible with my mobile phone. How do I uninstall it?

Answer: Power off your mobile phone and restart it after one minute. If you still experience problems or have any other questions, please contact our customer service that will try to assist in solving the problem.

Question: How often does NetQin update its virus database and how often do I have to update my virusdefinitions?

Answer: Virus detection, discovery and development demand a weekly update of your virusdefinitions. The Viroxware program on your phone will automatically search for the latest updates on a weekly basis, but you can schedule your update according to your own requirements.

To ensure the safety of your mobile phone, we strongly recommend that you use the latest virus definitions for scanning. If you experience any problems during updating, please contact our customer service department.
